Synthetic indices are available 24/7 — but that doesn’t mean every hour is equal. Timing your trades can make a real difference in volatility, entries, and results.

In this guide, I’ll break down the best times to trade synthetic indices like Volatility 75, Boom & Crash, Jump Indices, and more — based on how these markets move, when they spike, and when setups tend to fail.

I have been trading these synthetic indices since 2016, and I have amassed some valuable experience on the best times to trade.

Let’s get into it.

🔧 Are Synthetic Indices Affected by Time?

Yes — and no.

Synthetic indices don’t follow economic news or real-world time zones, but they are coded with consistent volatility patterns that create active and quiet periods just like traditional markets. These patterns are predictable once you observe them long enough.

So even though they’re “always on”, the time you choose to trade still matters — especially for fast-moving assets like V75, Boom 1000, or Vol 100 (1s).

⏱️ Best Time of Day to Trade Synthetic Indices

Let me share what I’ve noticed over the years:

Volatility 75 tends to make its strongest directional moves around:

  • 10:00 to 13:00 GMT
  • 22:00 to 00:00 GMT
That’s when I’ve caught most of my clean breakouts and trend runs. It’s also when failed trades spike the hardest.

Boom and Crash often trend better at:

  • 06:00 to 11:00 GMT
  • 19:00 to 23:00 GMT
These are the sessions where you’ll see fewer fakeouts — and smoother candles.

Jump Indices behave like mechanical clockwork. Observe them, and you’ll see:

  • Jump 10 gives clear reversals roughly every 15–20 mins
  • Jump 25 resets more slowly but with stronger spikes
  • DEX and DSI Indices (if you’ve moved into those) also follow time-based regimes. DEX UP/Down will push hard every 15 minutes. DSI resets direction every X minutes (depending on the version — DSI 20, DSI 60, etc).

🌍 Should I Trade During Forex Market Hours?

It’s not a rule — but I have obseved there’s usually more movement during London and New York forex sessions:

  • London session (07:00–16:00 GMT):
    More structured trends
  • New York session (13:00–21:00 GMT):
    Increased volatility and range breaks

Even though Deriv synthetics are independent, the price engines are coded to simulate real market behavior — and that includes volume-based price flow.

📘 Take Note!

“Although synthetic indices can be traded 24/7 unlike forex, it’s still important to find the best time that matches your strategy. Just like with forex, some traders find that the indices respect structure better during the London and New York sessions.”

That’s still 100% true — and the more I’ve traded, the more I’ve seen how certain hours make or break your edge. Your strategy might work, but if you’re trading during sideways hours, you’ll end up overtrading, forcing signals, and chopping yourself up.

🧠 Tips for Timing Trades Like a Pro

  • Journal your trades by time – track which hours give you wins vs losses. If you do this for an extend time you will start to see patterns emerging.
  • Watch price behavior before and after the hour – some synthetics make explosive moves just before new 15-minute or hourly candles. Again, journaling this is the best way to observe the trends.
  • Avoid flat times – if the market hasn’t moved much in 10 minutes, step back. Switch to demo until the spark comes back. Journaling is still important here too as it will help you get a clearer picture over time.

🛑 Don’t Forget Your Local Timezone

All times listed here are GMT. If you’re trading from Zimbabwe, South Africa, or Botswana, your local time is GMT+2 — so adjust accordingly.

For example:

  • 10:00 GMT = 12:00 in Zim
  • 22:00 GMT = midnight local time

Set your MT5 time zone display if needed or use a simple time converter.

🧭 My Recommendation from experience

You don’t need to be in front of charts all day to succeed with synthetics. What matters more is catching your edge at the right time. If you keep losing despite having a decent strategy, try logging the times you trade — it might be a timing issue, not a signal problem.

Find your window, stick to it, and trade smart.

FAQ's On The Best Times To Trade Deriv Synthetic Indices

10:00–13:00 GMT and 22:00–00:00 GMT often provide the best structure and breakout moves, especially on Volatility 75 and Boom/Crash.

Do synthetic indices follow forex sessions?

Not directly, but they behave more predictably during London and New York hours because their algorithm simulates active market conditions.
